Clinical Hypnotherapy is what people are generally referring to when they say something like “I went to see a Hypnotherapist and she stopped me biting my nails”.

Clinical Hypnotherapy is also known as “Suggestion Therapy” as it is generally used for relatively “minor” problems and relies on the mind being able to make changes through the use of positively phrased suggestions.

A therapist using clinical Hypnotherapy is likely to help you to achieve a relaxed frame of mind, perhaps whilst you are sitting (or lying) in a comfortable chair, and will then give you specific, symptom related suggestions that enable you to visualise yourself in a more positive light, for example “feeling incredibly proud of yourself for having long, elegant finger nails that you prefer not to chew”.

A good majority of people in today’s fast-paced society have probably forgotten how to relax, and so when they come along for a session of Clinical Hypnotherapy, the degree of relaxation that is accomplished can itself be a profound experience.

Hypnotherapy Should Be Available on the NHS…

Experts believe that Clinical Hypnotherapy offers real benefits to a range of problems – read this article on the BBC Website below:

NHS should offer Hypnotherapy as standard says new report

Does Clinical Hypnotherapy create permanent change?

The changes brought about in these sessions can be very powerful but should not always be regarded as permanent.

Clinical Hypnotherapy can bring about really significant behavioural change, but it cannot necessarily help you to resolve long term emotional problems that may have been one of the root causes of your symptoms.

What sort of problems is Clinical Hypnotherapy best suited to?

To answer this question accurately, it might be better to ask: “Under what circumstances would clinical Hypnotherapy be the best solution?” – If you look at the question like this, we would say that it is very dependent on

(1) how much the problem is affecting your day-to-day life, and

(2) how long have you been suffering with the problem.

For example, if you have been worrying about making a speech at a wedding for the last couple of weeks, but apart from that, your life is in pretty good shape, then Hypnotherapy is probably going to do the trick for you.

On the other hand, if you have turned down numerous people in the past when they asked you to make a speech, and you have developed severe anxiety and have taken time off work as a result, then it is unlikely that Clinical Hypnotherapy will resolve the problem and you should consider another one of our Psychological Interventions.

Every single person experiences problems in a different way, and to a different degree, but in most cases clinical Hypnotherapy can be very effective with:

All of the above are, in general terms, relatively “minor” problems that people might suffer from at any time and respond well to Clinical Hypnotherapy, however, it is also possible that each of the above can be experienced “in the extreme”, so we always like to meet with any prospective client prior to any sessions so that we can make a full assessment of their particular circumstances.
