Hypnosis Based Therapy Solutions in Wolverhampton

Although hypnosis, or the altered state of awareness that has been labelled as hypnosis, occurs in almost every single person numerous times every day, there are still an enormous number of misconceptions about what it is and what it can do.

Hypnosis in itself is not a therapy in the same way that “concentrating” is not a therapy, but when we take advantage of some of the “features” of the hypnotic state and then combine it with therapeutic techniques, it can help to bring about change in a more effective way.

Hypnosis based therapy – available types

We offer two main therapies that use hypnosis either all the time, or part of the time:

  • Clinical Hypnosis – Clinical hypnosis is normally carried out over one or two sessions and involves you relaxing into a light/medium state of hypnosis. During these sessions you will simply be listening to the voice of the therapist as she gives you carefully worded suggestions and visualisation which are combined with some specially recorded sound tracks played through our hypno-com sound system. Clinical hypnosis is also used extensively to help improve sports performance.
  • Neuro Linguistic Programming – NLP is a technique with its roots in hypnosis. It places a particular emphasis on how our thought processes use words (linguistics) to model and influence the way we respond to external, and internal, events.

When would you use Hypnosis based therapy?

Generally speaking, we would advocate the use of hypnosis in cases where the symptoms are “relatively” moderate. To help you understand what we mean, see the two example below:

Scenario A – Mild Fear of Flying

Client has flown several times in the past, but is going on holiday in a few weeks and is starting to get quite anxious about the prospect even though they know that they have done it before.

They don’t know why they have “all of a sudden” developed these feelings but they want to be able to get on the plane and not panic as this would ruin the holiday for everybody else.

Scenario B – Chronic Fear of Flying

Client has only flown once before at it was the most horrible experience they ever had, all they could think about was crashing and dying and that was 4 years ago.

Now, they only have to see a TV programme about planes or flying and they go into a cold sweat.

This has also led to some obsessive compulsive patterns developing, such as having to check the front door lock 25 times before leaving the house in the mornings and overall they feel much more anxious.

I hope that you can see that these two people experience the “Fear of Flying” in rather different ways.

In the first case we would certainly suggest having two or three sessions of clinical hypnosis which would undoubtedly help the client to have a much more relaxed fight, but I hope you can also see that in scenario B that this person has a lot more “going on” and is almost certain to benefit more from a more significant form of therapy such as Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT) or perhaps one of the Psychotherapy techniques.
