Hypnotherapy For Anxiety

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in Wolverhampton

As people become less comfortable with the prescribing of Tranquillisers (Valium, Xanax etc) by their Doctors, there is a growing trend towards the use of Complementary Therapies for these Anxiety related problems.

We have been offering Hypnotherapy for Anxiety at our clinic for the last 5 years and have helped a large number of people in the Wolverhampton and West Midlands area to overcome the problem and lead more fulfilling lives.

A Cautionary Note

It’s important to be aware that for some Anxiety problems that the symptom may be present for a very good reason and may not be attributed to any “unhelpful psychology” – if this is the case with your Anxiety then it’s important that you discuss the cause with your GP before deciding to undergo any Hypnotherapy.

If you would like to measure the “degree” of Anxiety that you are currently experiencing you could try out one of the Psychology Tests HERE.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is your brain’s defence mechanism when it believes that you are in some sort of danger, or your life is threatened in some way.

This “hard-wired” reaction is managed by the “Limbic” portion of our brain which prepares our bodies for one of three “survival” reactions:

  • Freeze
  • Flight
  • Fight

Whichever physical reaction we opt for (Stay very still and hope it goes away, run away as quickly as possible, or, as a last resort, fight for our lives!) the preparation mechanism is the same.

  • Heart rate increases
  • Adrenalin is flooded into the blood stream
  • Our stomach tightens
  • Our muscles become tense
  • Oxygenated blood is diverted to our main muscles and away form our brains – we become light-headed

Don’t these sound very much like the symptoms of Anxiety?

This all makes perfect sense if we are about to be eaten by a Tiger but that is rather rarer now than it was in the days of our ancestors!

However, if the “perceived object of danger” is not a physical thing, but rather is the product of our “thought processes” or “imagination”, then it can become rather confusing to be experiencing this change in body chemistry without any obvious external danger.

This conflict between what we feel and why we are feeling it can leave us feeling out of control of our emotions and easily spiral out of control to the point where we become desperate for a solution.

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety – Treatment

These days Hypnotherapy for Anxiety tends to be more focused on helping a person to be more in control of their thinking and reactions to perceived danger than attempting to “uncover” any root cause.

We should be aware that although past experiences “may” have contributed to the current thinking patterns and behaviours which give rise to the Anxiety, whatever it was that may have caused the problem cannot be changed any longer – the past has gone!

We recommend the use of a refined Hypnotherapy technique called “Cognitive Processing and Integration” which allows a person to gently re-examine how past experiences may have influenced their thinking (not find the cause) and to then re-integrate those experiences into the memory in a much more useful context.

This way, the process helps a person to manage their thinking that creates the Anxiety in a much more effective way.

Female SilhouetteI would just like to say a heartfelt thank you to Joan who recently helped me to get through a really difficult time.

I was feeling extremely depressed and anxious about circumstances that were overwhelming me to a point of exhaustion.

Through hypnotherapy and her personal warmth and understanding I have come through the other side and have now found the courage to make major positive changes in my life.

I now feel I have an exciting new future, which seems unbelievable considering where I was just a few weeks ago.

Thank you really isn’t enough Joan

Lots of love

Find Out More About Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Hello my name is Joan Lee and I am a fully qualified Hypnotherapist.

I studied Hypnotherapy with the IAEBP and was awarded the Diploma in Hypnotherapy and invited to join the International Association of Evidence Based Psychotherapy.

I specialise in Hypnosis based therapies particularly the Hypno-Band weight loss system and helping Children’s problems using the Blowaway technique but I also offer evidence-based cognitive interventions where necessary.

I originally studied Beauty therapy back in the 1980’s but it still took me a number of years to realise that my “obsession” with the way that people looked (or more accurately the way that I looked!) had much more to do with my strong Social Phobia than any sound logical reasoning.

I KNOW what it is like to feel that you’re “just not good enough” and I can help you to overcome these thoughts and feelings through various techniques such as Clinical HypnosisNLP & Cognitive Processing & Integration therapy. I am currently studying for my CBT practitioners certificate.

If you’d like to discuss how I might help you with Hypnotherapy for Anxiety Disorders then get in touch with me below to arrange a Confidential initial chat about the treatment.
